Uttar Pradesh's registration department describes an online digital-stamping service for eligible rental agreements of up to twelve months. Its published process includes identity verification, agreement details, calculation of stamp duty, payment and electronic signing.

For landlords and tenants in Greater Noida, a digital process can make document handling easier. It does not remove the need to agree the commercial terms or confirm the legal requirements that apply to a particular tenancy.

Agree the tenancy before signing

Record the property, rent, deposit, term, payment date, notice provisions and responsibility for maintenance and utilities. Note any furniture or fittings included. Both parties should review the same final version; a convenient signing method does not resolve an unclear clause or a disagreement about the condition of the home.

Understand stamping and registration separately

Stamping, signing and registration are distinct concepts. The need for registration depends on the terms and legal nature of the instrument, not only the label "rent agreement". Confirm the position with the appropriate office or adviser, especially for longer terms or arrangements outside the service's eligibility.

Keep control of the digital process

  • Use the official service and check the entered details.
  • Keep OTPs and identity credentials private.
  • Verify the assessed duty before making payment.
  • Retain the executed document, payment receipt and move-in inventory.

The bottom line

Digital stamping simplifies a process; it does not replace a clear agreement or transaction-specific legal advice.
